HS8060 Reviews
I have tried a number of electric razors over more than 40 years. This is the first one that gives me a shave as good as (or better than) my Mach 3. Also, unlike previous electric razors I have used it does not leave me sore and with a shaving rash - probably because of the gel and the fact that it can be used wet in the shower.
Because of my previous experiences it took a lot of heart searching to pay the relatively high price for this model, but I have found it to be well worth the money.
With both a main charger/gel filling station and a smaller charger it will also be invaluable for travelling (filling with gel can also be done manually, thus avoiding the need to carry the main charing unit).
The open head design also makes cleaning very simple but does make the motor sound more noisy - not really noticeable in the shower though..
Philips HS8060 Review
I've just bought this shaver as I've been toying with the idea of an electric one for a while now. I was forced to use Gilette fusion as most super markets had stopped selling Mach 3 for some reason in Canterbury, but the five blades didn't cut my hair it just dragged them.
I bought this ...in Boots and I think it's fantastic! I had to pump the nivea bottle a couple of times before it worked, but once it does it's a wonderful sensation and I don't think 7 pounds for a bottle is expensive at all. If you're thinking of buying one, buy this kit. It lasta round 1.5 hours on charge so it's great for weekends away too as you don't even need to pack nivea separately and it comes with a nice little material hanger to put all of your stuff in the bathroom in! Top Stuff.
According to Which? Magazine 3 out of their 5 best buy Shavers are from Philips. The top one is a Panasonic Shaver. Braun doesn't make the list. I have a Philips Arcitec and this HS8060 Shaver as well.
The HS8060 is a great product.
It feels very comfortable in the palm of my hand, is very easy to clean and is also not noisy. But most important it gives me a shave equal to a Mach 3 Razor and is much more comfortable and without any cuts, burns or rashes.
To get the best results I first wet my face with some hot water. Then I squirt the Nivea balm on one side of my face and shave. Then I rinse the heads under a hot running tap to remove the stubble. I then go through these steps again for the other side of my face and then the neck area.
The Nivea balm is brilliant and really soothes my skin. I have eczema and years ago I used a Braun Shaver. However, Braun use Nickel in the Foil and this causes me to get a nasty rash. Philips use Sandvik Nanoflex Steel in their Shaver heads. This is a much better solution for those with sensitive skin/eczema.
In conclusion if you want a purely dry shave then look at the Philips Arcitec. But if you also want the option of dry or wet shaving then buy the HS8060 or check out the Panasonic Shavers. Boots don't stock Panasonic but Amazon and John Lewis do.
Update January 2008. I like this Shaver so much I have returned the more expensive Philips Arcitec because it never got used. The list price for this Shaver is £150 so the Amazon UK price is a steal.
